Aberfan 1966 - a poem by Chris Zachariou

Aberfan 1966
Aberfan 1966

an avalanche
of death slid
down the mountain

crying..
screaming..
choking..

voices fading

mummy

it's dark
it hurts
help me

their light goes out
Aberfan grows dim
and a taste of death
lingers in the town

innocence destroyed

now you pretend
there is no one there
maybe you even
fooled me for a while

but I will find you

soon I will cross the river
I know your name
it's been written
in the book for  years
